We spent Friday mainly recovering from our rainy outing on Thursday. I had a lot of house work and laundry piled up, an article to finish, and Courtney & I were both working on a new batch of applications to send out. In the evening we went to a dinner party at our neighbors; wonderful lamb from Gourmet Egypt, chicken, Greek salad, artichoke, and a birthday cake to celebrate Courtney’s birthday. We all had a few drinks, and stayed so late the kids all passed out in the couch together watching Scooby Doo. Good thing we live across the hall!
Saturday was Courtney’s actual birthday, and I had ordered Jared’s for breakfast: onion bagels with blueberry cream cheese, Belgian waffles and freshly squeezed orange juice. For the first time ever, Jared’s delivery guy didn’t show up on time. I was so puzzled eventually I called. He answered immediately and said he was just about to call me. His delivery guy had fallen down with his bike in a muddy puddle on his way to our house, and our delivery was ruined. He was putting a new one together, and would send it over as soon as possible. We weren’t pressed for time so this was fine. I felt bad for the guy when he showed up; I could tell he had fallen. Another victim of the storm.
In the afternoon we went over to the Maadi House for the boys’ tennis lesson and our tennis session. We should have thought about the rain and what kind of effect it must have had on the tennis courts, but surely someone would have called us if tennis were cancelled? No. When we got there, we saw signs telling us the courts were closed, and indeed they looked like mud baths! We let the boys play a bit and then went home to change. In the evening we had yet another dinner party to go to. Nice, relaxed evening with friends, and we stayed up too late again, which is OK when you homeschool and can sleep in the next day. It was a good social weekend.

Thank you kindly,
