Licking pictures of cakes

While I help the boys with their schoolwork in the mornings, Abraham often plays by himself, or walks around exploring things. He’ll read books quite a bit, or even sit and color with us. Today he was going through my bookshelf where I keep cookbooks. I let him, because he’s usually very careful when turning the pages. He likes books. I watch him at the corner of my eye, and suddenly today I noticed he was putting his face really close to the book, so I went over to see what he was doing. He was leafing through Nigella Lawson’s “How to be a Domestic Goddess,” carefully turning the pages to the pictures, and *licking* each and single one of them. The pictures are very well done, beautifully displaying all kinds of delicious baked goods; cupcakes, cookies, cakes, and other wonderful desserts. If I didn’t know any better, my instinct would probably be too, to lick them.

Lovely Lady of La Leche, most loving mother of the Child Jesus, and my mother, listen to my humble prayer. Your motherly heart knows my every wish, my every need. To you only, His spotless Virgin Mother, has your Divine Son given to understand the sentiments which fill my soul. Yours was the sacred privilege of being the Mother of the Savior. Intercede with him now, my loving Mother, that, in accordance with His will, I may become the mother of other children of our heavenly Father. This I ask, O Lady of La Leche, in the Name of your Divine Son, My Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
