Sleepless in Cairo; on jetlag

I’ve been extremely tired this past week, and we’re all having awful trouble getting our jetlag straightened out. I feel like I’m in a constant slow motion haze, but I still can’t go to sleep in the evenings, and neither can the boys. The other night I was watching a movie and kept nodding off in my chair over and over again, but when the movie finally was over and I went to bed, I laid awake for hours, unable to fall asleep. The only time my body seems able to sleep very soundly is in the mornings, and I literally have to force myself out of bed after Courtney has gone off to teach. He too has trouble sleeping during the night, and ends up teaching after only a couple of hours of sleep. When he comes home he has dinner with us, but then he can’t go on without a nap, and the bad circle is reinforced. I’m sure we’ll get it sorted out eventually, but I really don’t remember it being this painful.

Hi!

My family is considering moving to Cairo and I would be going to AUC, I'm a Sophomore. But I was wondering how your husband gets to and from work every day and if it is a big hassle? My family would be getting a house in Maadi. I do drive but I don't know how expensive it would be to drive an hour every day for classes.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Nad,
there's a bus service that my husband uses. http://www.aucegypt.edu/bus Students are able to use it too at a cost of 3000LE/year. Good luck with your move!

Thank you for your prompt reply and I was wondering if you could tell me if many AUC students live in Maadi or is there anywhere closer that is nicer? My father company is based in Maadi, but we really would like a large Villa that is close enough to both Maadi and AUC. Do you know of an area that would be what we are looking for?

Thank you so much and good luck with your pregnancy!

No problem!
If you are looking for a villa and you are open to living outside of Maadi closer to the new AUC campus in New Cairo, then there are a couple of places. I have been to Kattameyya and El Rehab. They are pretty much self sustained, the air is clean, and nice residential areas. These are the newer areas and I have the impression that not many students live there yet, but it would certainly be the most convenient place if you are able to choose at this point. If you have a car you can easily get to Maadi, Heliopolis and the new campus. I went to visit El Rehab in the spring, and you can read about it here: http://fugatesincairo.blogspot.com/2008/02/moving-to-al-rehab.html Good luck!

Lovely Lady of La Leche, most loving mother of the Child Jesus, and my mother, listen to my humble prayer. Your motherly heart knows my every wish, my every need. To you only, His spotless Virgin Mother, has your Divine Son given to understand the sentiments which fill my soul. Yours was the sacred privilege of being the Mother of the Savior. Intercede with him now, my loving Mother, that, in accordance with His will, I may become the mother of other children of our heavenly Father. This I ask, O Lady of La Leche, in the Name of your Divine Son, My Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
