We just had a wonderful mini holiday in Ain Sukhna, Egypt

We spent the past three days at Stella Di Mare on the beach in Ain Sukhna. It was a well needed break from Cairo – to breathe the fresh air alone was worth the trip, not to mention the beautiful beach and the sand that can occupy the boys for days on end, the warm water with fish, crabs and starfish to admire, the sun, the food, and the fact that I don’t have to clean, do laundry, dishes or cook for three entire days.

We went by bus with three other families, and it was an easy one-and-a-half hour drive there. The hotel is supposed to be a five star hotel, but according to any standards other than Egyptian, it’s more like a three star hotel (with five star rates, nonetheless). It’s quite child friendly though, with a large pool and a well kept beach, towel service, and breakfast and dinner buffets (the salads were especially nice this time).

We spent the days on the beach - talking, applying sun block to our children’s bodies, watching the kids play in and out of the water, reading, eating and drinking, being in awe of the tide, reapplying sun block to our children’s bodies, drinking water, sunbathing, going for walks, snorkeling, collecting sea shells, starfish, crabs, hermit crabs and sand dollars, and putting shirts on our children to protect them from the sun.

Courtney & I went out snorkeling together one morning when the sea was calm and found a large live sponge with two very curious clown fish swimming around. As soon as I swam down to have a closer look, they approached my goggles as to have a closer look themselves. It was absolutely amazing! I thought for a moment that it would be cool to pick some sponge, but I would never dream of ruining Nemo’s home!

We kept thinking that we would let the kids stay up playing, while the grown-ups had drinks and chatted in an adjacent room, but every night everybody – exhausted from all the beach and sun – would go to sleep early, only to wake up early the next day. At the end of the trip we had all had too much sun, too much play and too much food, and it was nice to head back home.

Lovely Lady of La Leche, most loving mother of the Child Jesus, and my mother, listen to my humble prayer. Your motherly heart knows my every wish, my every need. To you only, His spotless Virgin Mother, has your Divine Son given to understand the sentiments which fill my soul. Yours was the sacred privilege of being the Mother of the Savior. Intercede with him now, my loving Mother, that, in accordance with His will, I may become the mother of other children of our heavenly Father. This I ask, O Lady of La Leche, in the Name of your Divine Son, My Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
