Looking forward to a weekend in Ain El Sukhna

We made one attempt at a beach holiday earlier this semester, with our good friends who have lived in Egypt for almost two decades, but it wasn’t a great success. Courtney & I spent most of the time bickering about stupid things, and neither one of us could relax and enjoy ourselves. We both concluded afterwards that it had been silly to try to get away like that in the middle of extreme stress. Courtney had tons of work piled up, we were starting to get seriously discouraged by all the rejections, we had account complications in the US, and in general, we were very nervous about our future.

This weekend we are going for one night only, but since we are not entirely without options any more (yes, our immediate future seems to have lightened up a bit – more on this when it is official), we know we will be all right at least for a while longer, we are a bit more relaxed and can perhaps enjoy ourselves. There’s still a lot of work to be done – Courtney has finals, conferences, papers, and his translation to do, and time is running out; I have everything else – but at least we know we’ll be living under a roof next year with food on the table.

The hotel looks really nice. I look forward to the water, the beach, watching the kids play, not having to do housework, talking to friends, and getting out of town for a couple of days. Hopefully we’ll come back rejuvenated.

Lovely Lady of La Leche, most loving mother of the Child Jesus, and my mother, listen to my humble prayer. Your motherly heart knows my every wish, my every need. To you only, His spotless Virgin Mother, has your Divine Son given to understand the sentiments which fill my soul. Yours was the sacred privilege of being the Mother of the Savior. Intercede with him now, my loving Mother, that, in accordance with His will, I may become the mother of other children of our heavenly Father. This I ask, O Lady of La Leche, in the Name of your Divine Son, My Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
