I had a happy birthday!

With the help of our neighbors and friends, Courtney organized a very nice birthday for me. In the morning he coached the boys and their baseball team the Red Sox through yet another victorious game. I made lasagna for lunch, and in the afternoon our neighbors’ teenage daughter took all the kids to their tennis practice, while Courtney, I, Jen & Ken went on a one-hour felucca ride to watch the sun set over the Nile. We had some drinks and treats, talked, and enjoyed the weather. It was gorgeous – not as polluted as usual, and as every time, I wondered why we don’t go out like that more often. After our ride we went back to get the kids at the Maadi House and walked back to our house. There, our downstairs neighbors had arranged a surprise dinner party, with grilled food and cake. It was indeed a party day – quite different from what I am used to; I got a couple of really nice presents (a book by N. Mafouz, a purse, and a gift certificate for a pedicure), and I should also mention the almost one hundred happy birthday wishes I received electronically. Amazing! What a birthday!

Lovely Lady of La Leche, most loving mother of the Child Jesus, and my mother, listen to my humble prayer. Your motherly heart knows my every wish, my every need. To you only, His spotless Virgin Mother, has your Divine Son given to understand the sentiments which fill my soul. Yours was the sacred privilege of being the Mother of the Savior. Intercede with him now, my loving Mother, that, in accordance with His will, I may become the mother of other children of our heavenly Father. This I ask, O Lady of La Leche, in the Name of your Divine Son, My Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
