My dear Professor Husband was hit by a very fierce bout of food poisoning indeed, and we’ve spent the past few days trying to keep things afloat while dealing with that.
He came home on Thursday evening feeling a little out of sorts, and in the night, his body violently started depositing of everything he had eaten that day. He was up practically all night, just sitting in the bathroom, and this went on Friday and the next night. Fever, constant diarrhea, achy muscles and body, stomach cramps, and exhaustion. Saturday morning when he was not getting better, I called the doctor, who had seen similar cases over the past week. He prescribed some very strong medication that is taken against, among other illnesses, cholera and salmonella, and told me to make sure my patient drinks plenty of water.
Today, several days later, Courtney is still not fully recovered but on the mend. Our house, which is usually flirting with really messy, has fallen apart completely. The only things I’ve managed to keep clean are the kitchen, bathrooms (toilet scrubbing twice/day!), our sheets and clothes, all to avoid illness from spreading. The boys’ room is a disaster, with toys, clothes, and things covering the floor. Our bedroom is buried under clean laundry. The dining room has fallen victim to some sort of art project, and underneath that I know there are worksheets and school books hidden. There are baby toys strewn all over the living room, and every single shelf, desk, table, or dresser is covered in books, papers, stationary, university ID cards, sunglasses, diaper kits, taekwondo belts, toys, memory sticks – you name it! Even in the bathrooms, books have piled up (because where there’s a professor, there are books!), along with pencils, bookmarks and paper with notes scribbled all over.
I could really use that machine the Cat in the Hat uses to clean up after a day of fun. Sigh. And I didn’t even really get to have the fun. I know I need to make a push for it, but today also happens to be that day of the month when I don’t want to do anything but lay in bed with a warm blanket, a book, lots of tea, and if it gets really bad, take some Tylenol. Double sigh. Hop, skip to it.

I usually consider myself pretty on top of things just to have the kitchen, bathroom and laundry clean. I can't possibly clean up all the clutter too. Maybe this is why the husband always wants to throw everything out.
machine the Cat in the Hat uses to clean up? very good idea! don't worry! will come more clean-the house day ;O) to be healthy is the most important!
