Courtney doesn’t always go into work on Tuesdays. It’s not a teaching day at AUC, but a day reserved for meetings, and since the committee he is on this semester for some reason doesn’t ever meet on the day reserved for meetings, he only has to attend the occasional department meeting. Today was one of those days, and I had forgotten. Since we’re having people over for dinner tonight, and since we’re playing tennis this afternoon, I realized as he was getting ready to leave that I would have to run to the store before he left. While Courtney hopped in the shower I left Abraham in the boys’ care and ran over to Seoudi. I wasn’t gone for more than 20 minutes, and usually the boys are very good about looking after Abraham, but for some reason today they had been so absorbed in their work that they had lost track of him for a minute. As I walked in the door though, they were just discovering what he was up to, and shrieks of disgust were heard across the house. “Abraham stuck his head in the toilet and FELL IN!! Eeeuuww!” Luckily our toilets are old with very narrow holes, so there was no chance of our baby drowning. He did however, manage to dip the entire top of his head, and it appeared someone had forgotten to flush after their last visit. It was also evident that he had been playing with the toilet brush for a while before the plunge, because he had got toilet water all over his clothes and the floor. As Courtney was leaving and the groceries were being delivered, all the while the boys had questions about their math problems and complaining about hunger (it was getting close to lunch time), I had to give Abraham an instant bath and clean the bathroom.
I’ve seen baby-proofing gadgets for bathrooms and locks for toilet seats, and always wondered: what kind of baby would jump head first into a toilet?! Well, today I got that question answered; someone like Abraham. Eeeuuuww!

Horrible, but it will become one funny story to tell him when he gets older :)
We also have a picture of our daughter sitting in the toilet. They are so fast!
