2009 in sum

Last year around this time, I wrote a blog about our favorite moments in 2008. That was a very eventful year, as – it turns out - was 2009. Here are two lists to sum up the good and bad things that happened to this Swedish-American family in Cairo, Egypt over the past year:

Good things that happened in 2009

Happy, healthy Karl-Abraham was born in February, and our boys got two new cousins this year, one on each continent (America and Europe). Friends here and far had babies (Congratulations to all of you!), good friends finally got their adopted baby, and our very good friends made a baby (who is yet to be born).

We had visitors! My good friends and Kristina visited us in the spring, and my mom came twice this year. Having her here when Karl-Abraham was born was a special treat.

We went on some really awesome trips to Sharm El Sheik, Fayoum, Sweden, the United States, Hong Kong (Courtney alone), only to mention a few. We are so lucky to be able to travel like this, and that our boys enjoy it too.

Courtney got a book contract and finished his Magnum Opus, which is too long for anyone to publish, but is proof of amazing scholarship.

Bad things that happened in 2009

Courtney didn’t get any interviews for jobs next academic year. We are still waiting to hear if possibly we might be able to stay here, and in the meantime we’ll keep applying. Something is bound to come up, right?

In sum, looking at the ration good things-bad things, 2009 was a good and exciting year indeed! What were your highlights?

Lovely Lady of La Leche, most loving mother of the Child Jesus, and my mother, listen to my humble prayer. Your motherly heart knows my every wish, my every need. To you only, His spotless Virgin Mother, has your Divine Son given to understand the sentiments which fill my soul. Yours was the sacred privilege of being the Mother of the Savior. Intercede with him now, my loving Mother, that, in accordance with His will, I may become the mother of other children of our heavenly Father. This I ask, O Lady of La Leche, in the Name of your Divine Son, My Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
