Christmas Break Pleasures
The day after Boxing Day we went for a hike in the desert (Wadi Degla) with our friend Brandon.
It was a surprisingly hot day, and misty, so we didn't have much of a view from the mountains, but it was still very nice to get out of the noise and busyness. The boys ran, jumped, yelled, dug, climbed, and echoed their shrieks of freedom between the valley walls. Abraham enjoyed the view, explored the ground, and later fell asleep on my back. The "daddies" did pretty much what the boys did but in a more manly fashion, of course. It was a nice day.
The next day we got all dressed up in suits, ties, pearls, heels, and vests to go see the Nutcracker at the Cairo Opera House in Zamalek. It was a matinee, and although the music was recorded, it was very nice. It was the first ballet the boys have ever been to; frankly, I can't remember the last time I went either. Abraham, William, and August; all three sat spell bound through the whole two acts, enjoying every moment of it. They were so cute in their fancy outfits, their eyes glistening, and minds growing with every movement. I wanted to take a picture of the whole family when we got back because we all looked so nice, but the door had barely shut behind us before everyone had got out of their exquisiteness and into more comfortable clothes. Abraham fell asleep on the way home, too. Oh well, maybe next time.
Today we are having some friends over for dinner, and Courtney & I will cook that elk roast my mom brought us, together, with a glass of wine and music – perhaps the Nutcracker? – in the kitchen.
Lovely Lady of La Leche, most loving mother of the Child Jesus, and my mother, listen to my humble prayer. Your motherly heart knows my every wish, my every need. To you only, His spotless Virgin Mother, has your Divine Son given to understand the sentiments which fill my soul. Yours was the sacred privilege of being the Mother of the Savior. Intercede with him now, my loving Mother, that, in accordance with His will, I may become the mother of other children of our heavenly Father. This I ask, O Lady of La Leche, in the Name of your Divine Son, My Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
