Celebrating a quiet birthday in an empty Maadi

It’s my second birthday in Cairo, Egypt, and we already celebrated it last night with Shanghai Family Restaurant take-out. It’s the best Chinese we’ve found here, however their prices have gone up so much since we moved here that we rarely ever order from them anymore. It’s always tasty though. Courtney and the boys got me a small tub of birthday tiramisu at the new Italian shop on Road 231, and sang “Happy Birthday” to me. Then Courtney watched a ball game on television and I finished my book by Liza Marklund.

I had a nice birthday last year
with a quiet dinner amongst friends. This year is different but nonetheless enjoyable. Everybody is out of town; most of our friends went to the beach, some camping, and some are travelling. We didn’t plan any trips because Courtney has to finish his work, and besides, we have friends coming in on Sunday night for a week-long visit. I’m so excited. Until then, we’re enjoying a quiet Maadi.

Happy Eastern Easter and Sham El-Nessim (Smell-the-Spring day)!
Lovely Lady of La Leche, most loving mother of the Child Jesus, and my mother, listen to my humble prayer. Your motherly heart knows my every wish, my every need. To you only, His spotless Virgin Mother, has your Divine Son given to understand the sentiments which fill my soul. Yours was the sacred privilege of being the Mother of the Savior. Intercede with him now, my loving Mother, that, in accordance with His will, I may become the mother of other children of our heavenly Father. This I ask, O Lady of La Leche, in the Name of your Divine Son, My Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
