My 28-week pregnancy check-up

Today I had a check-up with my OBGYN. Everything looked great; urine was perfect, my blood pressure was lower than ever (courtesy of Dandelion, extra calcium, Red raspberry leaf tea and Hibiscus juice?), and the baby’s heart beat was as strong as ever. We discussed a 28-week Rhogam shot, and I told the doctor we are opting not to have it during this pregnancy. Since I never had it with the boys, and since there’s a risk involved – in my opinion (and according to our Belgian OBGYN) not worth the benefits – I asked to refrain. My OBGYN said he prefers that I have the shot since it is practice in the US, England and France, but left it up to me to decide.

Dr. Tareq also measured my uterus. At 28 weeks, my uterus measured 32 ½ weeks, which prompted him to start talking about a delivery date in January. Not only does my medical history encourage an as early delivery as possible, but if the baby is ready, “then why wait?” he suggested. This made me a little nervous, mainly due to concerns regarding the baby’s maturity, and I also knew the professor would freak out. He has a couple of very specific deadlines, publication dates, and other commitments that have been meticulously planned, and he is relying on every hour of the month of January to finish all this work. If the baby was to come early, he would be in a bit of a tight spot, or “everything will go to hell” as he so wittingly expressed himself when he heard the news.

I explained to the doctor that a ‘wait and see’ approach was what we preferred, and as the accommodating OBGYN he is, he completely concurred. My next appointment is in two weeks again, and at some point over the next month, we will go visit the hospital.

I swear i almost spit out my drink when i read that. LOL That is so what Hubby would say. "But i have plans. I need to work - the baby will simply have to wait!"

Hi Jennifer!
Well I'm 28 weeks pregnant in Cairo, Maadi also! So due in mid-February, and VERY excited (she'll be my first). I'm Finnish, lived in Holland for a long time, and do freelance writing here in Cairo, while my husband works in hotels. I'm actually also seeing a Dr. called Dr. Tareq here, maybe the same one as you? Dr. Tareq Tamara at Ghaly Clinic? Wow, if it is it's a small world! I've really enjoyed looking through your blog, I'd love to get in touch with you to chat about delivering/pregnancy here (I'm not flying back home, as we may be transferring again shortly after the birth). I'm really curious where you plan to deliver, I actually came across your blog today after feeling a little disheartened after going for a look at El Nada Hospital. Is this where you were planning to deliver? Would love to hear from you fellow 28-29 weeker! My tel is: 0109808036, and email: nelli.suolahti@gmail.com

Best wishes for the pregnancy!

Nelli

Lovely Lady of La Leche, most loving mother of the Child Jesus, and my mother, listen to my humble prayer. Your motherly heart knows my every wish, my every need. To you only, His spotless Virgin Mother, has your Divine Son given to understand the sentiments which fill my soul. Yours was the sacred privilege of being the Mother of the Savior. Intercede with him now, my loving Mother, that, in accordance with His will, I may become the mother of other children of our heavenly Father. This I ask, O Lady of La Leche, in the Name of your Divine Son, My Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
