Courtney started teaching summer courses this week, and we’re all slowly adjusting our schedules so that we’re up together in the mornings at about 6:30 am. It’s not only because Courtney has to go in to the university, but also because it’s getting noticeably hotter, and if we want to do something outside, mornings or evenings are better that mid-day.
Apart from a few small events coming up in the next couple of week, there’s not as much going on any more; some people already left for their home leave, and all extracurricular activities have ended for the summer. Apart from our school work, the boys and I mainly find ourselves going swimming at the Maadi House, or hanging out with whoever’s still around. The girls from Montana that the boys have had so much fun with this year (we’ve had fun with their parents too!) are leaving for good this Saturday, and in a couple of weeks our neighbors will leave for their summer holiday. Courtney will go to Turkey for a conference, and a week later we leave for Sweden.
I’m starting to plan our trip a little, but haven’t even gotten to making lists of things to bring, to buy, or to remember yet. We bought a few things at the Khan last week but there are still some gifts we want to get. Our biggest have-to right now is getting William a new passport because his current one is expiring in about a month. We’ve finally got all the papers together, including photos, and will visit the American embassy here in Cairo within the next few days. I hope all this goes smoothly, and that we can get his Egyptian VISA transferred to his new passport without too much hassle (and in time for our trip). I’m still having trouble grasping the fact that we get to venture on this amazing journey and see our family and friends this summer – what a trip! - but I’m slowly getting to where I can allow myself some excitement. Once the passport issue is out of the way I’ll be more relaxed and will be able to completely enter trip preparation mode.

Lovely Lady of La Leche, most loving mother of the Child Jesus, and my mother, listen to my humble prayer. Your motherly heart knows my every wish, my every need. To you only, His spotless Virgin Mother, has your Divine Son given to understand the sentiments which fill my soul. Yours was the sacred privilege of being the Mother of the Savior. Intercede with him now, my loving Mother, that, in accordance with His will, I may become the mother of other children of our heavenly Father. This I ask, O Lady of La Leche, in the Name of your Divine Son, My Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
