On bagels in general, and Jared's Bagels in particular

Until I came to Egypt I thought of myself as a person who doesn’t like bagels. Every bagel I had tasted so far was too dry, too dense, flavorless, not fresh or too salty or sweet. Friends and family would praise the existence of bagels and assure me that there’s nothing more wonderful, but I just didn’t see it, until, that is, I ordered from Jared’s Bagels on Road 9 in Maadi. Jared’s bagels are wonderful, and arrive freshly baked and warm on the minute you asked for them to be delivered. Although friends from San Francisco will assure me that Jared’s bagels are not even close to as good as ‘real’ bagels in the U.S., as a woman of certain age, I thought I knew most of what the world of baked breads had to offer by now, but these bagels have changed my perspective entirely. Not only is the delivery service free and impeccable, but Jared’s onion bagels with blueberry cream cheese or cinnamon crunch bagels with honey butter are divine!

I would have included a picture of this morning's bagel if I had been able to keep myself from eating it as soon as it arrived. I apologize, but assure you, dear reader, that I will try again. Soon.

Lovely Lady of La Leche, most loving mother of the Child Jesus, and my mother, listen to my humble prayer. Your motherly heart knows my every wish, my every need. To you only, His spotless Virgin Mother, has your Divine Son given to understand the sentiments which fill my soul. Yours was the sacred privilege of being the Mother of the Savior. Intercede with him now, my loving Mother, that, in accordance with His will, I may become the mother of other children of our heavenly Father. This I ask, O Lady of La Leche, in the Name of your Divine Son, My Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
